Fast, reliable desktop DVD backup and ISO preservation tool

Aegis DVD Backup is a modern, high-performance desktop application designed
to back up, archive, and preserve DVDs from attached optical drives to your
local storage. Whether archiving movie discs, home videos, or optical data,
Aegis DVD Backup pairs an intuitive interface with a resilient, fault-tolerant
read engine.

Key Features:
  • Automatic Drive Discovery: Detects internal and USB optical drives,
identifies media, and inspects disc structures (UDF, ISO9660).
  • Smart Auto Mode: Automatically diagnoses disc state (unprotected,
copy-protected, or damaged) and chooses the best backup backend.
  • VIDEO_TS Folder Mirroring: Copies playable DVD-Video folders (IFO, BUP,
and VOB files) ready for media players like VLC, Kodi, or Plex.
  • 1:1 ISO Disc Images: Creates sector-accurate disc images for complete
disc preservation and physical burning.
  • Copy-Protection Negotiation: Built-in CSS key negotiation and dvdbackup
integration for commercial discs.
  • Fault Tolerance & Damage Resiliency: Wall-clock read timeouts prevent
freezing on damaged or unreadable sectors; unreadable regions are cleanly
zero-filled and mapped.
  • Audit Sidecars: Writes a detailed disc.json sidecar with sector maps,
hashes, and read health statistics alongside every backup.
  • Modern Interface: Built with PySide6 featuring polished Dark and Light
themes, real-time activity logs, and persistent window geometries.

Permissions & Setup:
To allow the snap to communicate directly with your optical drive hardware,
connect the following interfaces:
sudo snap connect aegisdvdbackup:optical-drive
sudo snap connect aegisdvdbackup:removable-media
sudo snap connect aegisdvdbackup:hardware-observe
sudo snap connect aegisdvdbackup:mount-observe

Notice: Intended for personal archival backups of legally owned media.
