Write chord sheets and hear them
Chord Notepad is a text editor for musicians. Write chord symbols above
your lyrics and it picks them out, highlights them and plays them back,
voiced the way a pianist or guitarist would actually play them.
Chords can be written in American (C, Am, Bb7), European (Do, Re, Mi) or
Roman numeral notation, from plain triads to slash chords and altered
jazz voicings. Click a chord to hear it, or play the whole song with each
chord lighting up as it sounds. Tempo, meter, key and repeated sections
are set with simple ChordPro-style directives.
Playback uses real MIDI synthesis with a bundled soundfont. Piano
voicings move smoothly from chord to chord, guitar voicings use playable
fingerings in several tunings, and ensemble presets voice each chord for
choir or string quartet. A chord sheet strip shows the voiced chords as a
piano roll, staff, chord boxes or tab, and songs can be exported as MIDI
files.
