Full-system integration testing with virtual machines and cloud images
Image Garden can download, initialize and operate virtual machines for
testing software against popular operating systems.
Thanks to the bundled copy of spread (https://github.com/snapcore/spread)
it can be used to perform real-world tests of a software project as it
would be running on a particular release of Debian, Ubuntu, Ubuntu Core,
Fedora, openSUSE, Arch Linux, Amazon Linux, CentOS, Alma Linux, Rocky
Linux, Alpine Linux and more.
Find integration pain points before they happen to your users or
customers. Run the same tests locally and in CI/CD pipelines like
GitHub Actions and GitLab. Spread execution across many virtual
machines to take advantage of all the available CPU cores. Use
cloud-init to automatically create and maintain tailored disk images that
fit the requirements of your project.
The snap bundles the following software:
- image-garden: the main application
(https://gitlab.com/zygoon/image-garden)
- spread, spread-plus: integration test runners
(https://github.com/snapcore/spread,
- QEMU system emulators for x86_64, aarch64, riscv64, s390x, ppc64,
loongarch64 (https://www.qemu.org)
- apt-cacher-ng: caching HTTP proxy for apt
(https://www.unix-ag.uni-kl.de/~bloch/acng/)
- auto-apt-proxy: automatic proxy configuration for guest hosts
- virtiofsd: virtio filesystem daemon for efficient host-guest file sharing
- GNU make, GNU wget, GNU tar (xz compression), xorriso, coreutils (nproc)
testing software against popular operating systems.
