A modern, local-first SSH client and terminal emulator

Simple Terminal is a modern SSH client and terminal emulator that keeps your work on your machine. No accounts, no cloud, no telemetry — your connection details stay in a local database and every secret is stored in the system keyring (libsecret), never in plain text.

Connect to anything
- Password, private-key (file or paste, with passphrase), and interactive one-time-token / 2FA sign-in
- Jump-host chaining and local, remote, and dynamic (SOCKS) port forwarding
- Per-host agent forwarding
- Trust-on-first-use host-key verification with clear warnings when a key changes, plus a known-hosts manager

Stay organized
- Nested host folders you can rearrange freely
- Shared folder defaults (username, jump host, credential) that hosts inherit unless they set their own
- Import from your existing ~/.ssh/config
- Quick Connect to user@host:port, Recent hosts, and host search

Work faster
- Tabs plus nested, resizable split panes
- Broadcast input to every pane in a split at once
- In-terminal search, copy-on-select, and Ctrl-click to open links
- Built-in SFTP browser: upload, download, rename, delete, mkdir, permissions and chmod, with transfer progress
- Reusable command snippets

Manage software without the command line
- A graphical package manager for apt, Homebrew, and pip — on your own machine or any host you reach over SSH
- Discover software with registry search and a curated catalog of popular packages, with rich details (description, developer, homepage, version)
- Install or remove with a click; see what's installed and what has an update
- Bring every outdated package up to date in a single action
- A built-in health check flags common problems, and privileged actions run cleanly without dropping to a root shell

Local shells too
- Open Bash, Zsh, Fish, and other installed shells alongside your SSH sessions

Made to feel good
- Light, dark, and system themes with accent colors and terminal color schemes
- Adjustable font size, family, and scrollback
- Session and layout restore on restart
- Auto-reconnect with backoff and a dead-connection watchdog
- A configurable global hotkey to show or hide the window

After installing, connect these interfaces so saved passwords and your existing keys work:
- sudo snap connect simple-terminal:password-manager-service
- sudo snap connect simple-terminal:ssh-keys
